1. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Applicants must have no record of serious misconduct and agree to strictly follow the rules and regulations of the university.
  2. Applicants must not have a serious contagious disease or any disease that will obstruct their studies.

 2. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY QUALIFICATIONS

          2.1) Applicants who are Non-Native English Speakers or from a country where English is not an official language:

1) Applicants can submit one of the following English Language Certificates with minimum score as listed below:

  • IELTS minimum band score of 5.0 or
  • TOEFL minimum score of 500 PBT or 173 CBT or 61 IBT or
  • TOEFL ITP Test with a minimum score of 500 PBT from institute/center accredited by Institute of International Education (IIE)

2) Applicants who do not have an English Language Certificate, MUST take the English Placement Test arranged by Chiang Mai University International College. The English Placement Test will be held on the same day as the examination for specialized subjects.  Test fees must be paid together with the application fee.


           2.2) Applicants who are Native English Speakers and from country where English is an official language:
                        1) All applicants (except applicants who apply for Integrated Design in Emerging Architecture) will be exempted from the English Placement Test, but will still be required to take entrance examinations as specified by individual faculties/colleges.

                        2) Applicants who apply for Integrated Design in Emerging Architecture must submit one of following English Language Certificate with minimum score as listed below:

  • IELTS minimum band score of 5.0 or
  • TOEFL minimum score of 500 PBT or 173 CBT or 61 IBT or
  • TOEFL ITP Test with a minimum score of 500 PBT from institute/center accredited by Institute of International Education (IIE) or
  • SAT1 (critical reading) minimum score of 400
  • English Placement Test arranged by Chiang Mai University International College

3. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

         3.1 Students who graduated from or are studying in M.6 in a Thai educational system school are required to meet the minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) according to their selected          program as follows:

          3.2 Standard Certifications equivalent to High School in Thai educational system

  • Students who graduated from an international school in Thailand and have an equivalency certificate by the Thai Ministry of Education.
  • Students who graduated from an overseas institution and have an equivalency certificate and must be accredited by the Ministry of Education.
  • Applicants who submit GED must pass all 5 subjects. Each subject must be passed with a minimum score of 410 and a minimum total score of 2,250.
  • Applicants who submit IGCSE must have a minimum grade of C in at least 5 subjects.
  • Applicants who submit General Certificate in Secondary Education (GCSE) or GCE ‘O’ level, must have a minimum grade of C in at least 5 subjects.  GCE ‘A’ Level, or ‘AS’ Level must have a minimum grade of C in at least 3 subjects, with 8 subjects in total.
  • Applicants who submit International Baccalaureate (IB) Certificate must have a minimum Grade of 4 in at least 5 non-duplicate subjects or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
  • Applicants from the Chinese High School System must have the results of at least 4 semesters, with a minimum score of 60 out of 100 or 90 out of 150.
  • Applicants from the Myanmar Matriculation System must have a Matriculation Examination Pass Certificate and “O” Level Pass Certificate or Matriculation   Examination Pass Certificate and transcripts of the first academic year in an undergraduate degree from an acknowledged university. 

         3.3 Additional Requirements

  • Students who graduated from or are studying in M.6 in Thai educational system school (as per 3.1) must have Physics and Mathematics with a minimum CGPA of 2.25 out of 4.00 in each subject.
  • Student who submit a Standard Certification Equivalency (as per 3.2 except GED) must have both Physics and Mathematics in their transcript.

 4. ADMISSION PROCESS

  1. Applications must be submitted online at www.cmuic.cmu.ac.th in each intake per the following schedule;
  • Application period:  June 12 – 23, 2017
  • Announcement of qualified applicants eligible for Written Entrance Examination and Interview: June 29, 2017

5.  TEST CENTERS

         Applicants must select Chiang Mai University as test center during online application.

 6. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Applicants must complete the online application form and are required to submit clear and readable scanned documents (each file size not over 1 MB) as follows: 

  1. A scanned copy of high school graduation certificate/diploma for Matayom Suksa 6, or Grade 12 or Equivalent, Thai or English, or its foreign equivalent. (if not in English, please submit the original document with an official English translation).
  2. A verification letter of current student status (if studying).
  3. A scanned copy of official high school transcript, Thai or English, or its foreign equivalent.
  4. An Official Certificate of English Language ability (If any).
  5. For Thai citizens: A scanned copy of the Thai National I.D. Card. 
    For non-Thai citizens: A scanned copy of Passport (recommended for a quick visa process) or a scanned copy of the National I.D. card with official English translation.
  6. Health certificate, Thai or English, issued within the last 6 months. Applicants must self-certified that they do not have condition as listed per requirement in General Qualification (1) above.
  7. 2x2 inches, full-face, formal photograph taken within the last 6 months (in jpg format).

 Applicants who apply for Integrated Design in Emerging Architecture are required to submit the following additional documents: 

  1. Personal portfolio in Art, design and handicraft (no more than 15 sheets of A4 size in pdf format, file size not over 16 MB).
  2. Statement of Purpose, stating the interest in the program and intentions in the future (no more than 2 sheets of A4 size in pdf format, file size not over 1 MB).
  3. Reference Letter (no more than 2 sheets of A4 size in pdf format, file size not over 1 MB) from a homeroom teacher, a guidance counselor, or a teacher who can certify the student’s portfolio work, as well as student’s ability, talents, and development.

      Important Remark: If any documents submitted are found to be fraudulent, applicants will be automatically disqualified.

7. APPLICATION FEES AND PAYMENTS

  1. Application Fee: (Non-refundable): Baht 1,200     
  2. English Placement Test Fee (Non-refundable): Baht 400
  3. Payment Methods: Chiang Mai University International College must receive full amount of fee(s) in order for the application to be processed:
  • By Credit Card  Applicant can input credit card details at the end of the online application process  (Note: Processing fee and other related fee will be charged)
  • By Bank Transfer Applicant can select Bank Transfer option and the system will generate payment slip payable to “Chiang Mai University International College”
