Welcome to Chiang Mai University. Chiang Mai University was established in 1964. It is the first higher education organization in Northern Thailand, as well as the first provincial university in Thailand. CMU owns 3 campuses and 2 education centers. The 3 campuses are located in Chiang Mai, while one education center is located in Lamphun and the other one is in Samutsakorn. All the campuses and centers together occupy a total area of 14.1 square kilometers.
The Sala Dham building, it is a two-storey Thai style building in the front area of campus. This building was completed in 1965. Sala Dham used to be the ceremony place for the students to show respect to their teachers. And it was also the dressing room and the rest place for the king during the graduation ceremony. Sala Dham is presently used to welcome distinguished guests for some special occasions.
The campus services division. CMU offers various daily services to students, staff and lecturers, such as postal and banking facilities, as well as health, legal consulting and school bus services.
The Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration. It was established in December 24, 2005. The predecessor of the faculty was the department of Politics, which belonged to the Faculty of Social Science. Faculty of Social Science is one of the 3 earliest established facilities. In 1965, the university welcomed its first group of students enrolled as Humanities undergraduates. In the last 50 years, our graduates and alumni have provided service in this country, and have worked in a wide variety of jobs worldwide. The former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, as Thailand's first female prime minister, is the great example of our distinguished university alumni members.
The Faculty of Science. The Faculty was established when the University was founded in 1964. At present, the Faculty is composed of Dean’s Office and 8 other departments, which are respectively Mathematics, Chemistry, Industry, Biology, Geoscience, Physical Materials Science, Computer Science and Statistics. Additionally there are 4 centers, which are Science and Technology Service Center, Multidisciplinary Research Center, Materials Science Research Center and Chiang Mai University Suthep Mountain Nature Research Center.
the men’s and women’s dormitories. CMU provides students with clean and tidy dorms to study and live, and it’s equipped with a “Care Center” to help and take care of students’ problems. The dorms also provide study rooms, language courses, personal training sessions, and career consulting services. There are also other hardware facilities support, such as computer rooms, library and activity rooms. In all the dorms, there is great emphasis on the high quality of the environment and neatness. CMU currently operates 18 dormitory facilities, which can easily provide services for up to 7,344 students.
Chiang Mai University has a number of Sports and Entertainment facilities. There are many activity facilities in CMU. The main campus has an indoor and outdoor Sports Square, which includes a fitness center and a 50-meter swimming pool. The
University also offers plenty of international program to people inside or outside the university, such as aerobics, badminton, basketball, boxing, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, soccer, softball, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.Faculty of Business Administration was re-established in 1992. Prior to that year, it used to function as a department under the Faculty of Social Sciences, which was established in 1965. This Faculty is composed of 4 departments, which are Banking & Finance, Management, Marketing, and Accounting. There are currently 48 full-time lecturers and 57 supporting staff working in the department. Faculty of Business Administration offers two Bachelor Degree programs, namely Bachelor of Accounting and Bachelor of Business Administration. The continuing Master and Doctoral programs of these two majors are also available at CMU. All the degree programs at our university can proudly produce 1000 graduates annually.
The Language Institute. The LI is an educational center aimed at improving the students’ and staff’s foreign language skills and practical competencies. The Language Institute also offers open courses to the ones who are determined to learn a foreign language. The goal of the institute is become the medium of teaching a foreign language by the use of native speaker teachers. The language courses consist of in-class activities, integrated teaching, and specialized cultural education.
CMU international College. CMUIC aims at achieving high standard of international undergraduate programs to fulfill the CMU strategic goal and educational research mission on the internationalization of its education. All the international programs are taught in English. There are 6 international programs at the undergraduate level, which are Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Economics, Nursing Science, Social Science and Thai as a Foreign Language.
CMU main library, known as CMUL. It was completed in 1964 and has been in continuous use ever since. CMUL can accommodate and provide 1612 seats for the students at the same time. It is composed of 1 main library and 20 faculty branch libraries. There is 1 main office and also 5 additional divisions to operate the daily facilities in CMUL.
The Glory Royal Celebration Hall, which was completed in December 5, 2011. It was built to celebrate the 84th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The Faculty of Law building and Angkaew Lake is the most attractive popular area in CMU campus among students and tourists. The lake provides water resource to the entire university. The bus will stop here for 10 minutes, so you can take a break, relax, and have the opportunity to take some photos if you’d like.
